Moving Image Topography
Moving Image Topography is a concept for research and a methodology of thinking through the textures and configurations of the moving image - about place, and the experience of place.
Moving Image Topography describes ways of thinking cinematically and experimentally about structures of knowledge and the formation and mediation of experience.
It developes from the doctoral project Essay Film as Topography (2016-2020), in which artistic research is key - and which proposes a thinking model called Topographical Acts of Movement: a tool for differentiating and performing the spatial thinking of the moving image artist-thinker.
Many of my projects are connected to, or have developed from, this practical-theoretical epicentre.
The book Place and the Moving Image - Experimental Film as Topography (Routledge 2025), conveys this concept and methodology further, and can be purchased as e-book and hardback, with a paperback edition forthcoming in November 2026.
The film experiments, associated with this research: 3xShapes of Home (2020), received King´s Colleges Ivan Juritz Prize for Creative Experiment in Visual Arts in 2020.
